Bio Marin Reflection
BioMarin's goal is to create medicine for rare diseases that most other companies do not think about making it for. Their main goal, though is to maximize shareholders profit. I learned that they use CHO (chinese hamster ovarie) cells because they seperate away from each other very well. They test the disease cure on these cells after they recreate the cell the be the same as a diseased cell. Some of the cons at the Biomarin field trip, was that we did not learn a lot due to our time constraints. During the visit, I liked how we got to see the machines work and have real scientist talk to us about what its like to work there. I would of liked to learn more about how they replicate the disease in the cell to see if the drug works.
